Our February Woman Crush, Les Alfred, is Teaching Us How to Live a More Balanced Life

The year was 2020. I had just quit my job and was anxious about what my next steps were going to be. I had no backup plan, which was the first for me, and I couldn’t see the next move. I needed to reduce some of the stress I had been feeling and I turned to every wellness practice in the book. I soon found the Balanced Black Girl Podcast hosted by Les Alfred and immediately became a fan.

Her mellifluous voice instantly put me in a state of calm, and the topics of discussion helped me navigate through a chaotic time in my life. I continuously tune in to learn about new ways I can live a more balanced lifestyle, and I am honored to be able to feature Les Alfred as our February 2024 woman crush!

Les Alfred is an award-winning podcast host, speaker, and content creator helping women live their best lives. For nearly a decade, Les has created inspiring, approachable wellness content leveraging her expertise as a personal trainer, nutrition coach, and certified yoga instructor.

As the host of Balanced Black Girl, a chart-topping weekly podcast, Les facilitates thoughtful interviews and insightful solo episodes exploring the various aspects of life that contribute to wellness. Balanced Black Girl covers everything from wellness to productivity to personal finance to self-care. Her mission is to help others create nourishing habits that help them create the necessary space to live their best lives.

What inspired you to create the Balanced Black Girl podcast, and how do you want it to help your listeners?

I started Balanced Black Girl in 2018 to create a space for approachable, relatable wellness and lifestyle content in the podcasting space. My hope is to educate, entertain, and inspire my listeners on their journey to living their best lives.

How has the creation of Balanced Black Girl aided in your single season?

I created Balanced Black Girl at the start of my single season while navigating a challenging breakup. It’s been a source of creativity and connection with the community it serves.

How do you find balance in your dating life and handle the difficulties that may arise?

Currently, my focus is on living a full life doing things that I enjoy. Unfortunately, dating just hasn’t been a fruitful, enjoyable experience, so I am currently prioritizing other activities that I find joy from.

What is the most beautiful lesson you’ve learned during and about your singledom?

That life is what we make it! Life can look beautiful in so many different ways, and it’s okay to lean into that looking different for every person.

How do you show yourself love and compassion?

Nearly 24/7. Everything from the books I read, to the music I listen to, to my wellness habits are acts of self-love and compassion. I don’t see self-care or self-love as things that I need to strive for – they are woven into how I live in my day-to-day.

What words of wisdom do you wish to share with other Single Women?

You have all the wisdom you need inside of you, and you are the expert on your own experience. Lean on your lived experience and intuition to lead you in the right direction.
